ISSUES & HOT TOPICS for week of February 3, 2019

STATE ISSUES

ACTION 1: Pass voting rights and a small donor public financing system early in 2019/State Senator/Assemblyman

INFO: Senator Helming did not vote for the first set of voting and stated that her reason was the expense to adequately implement those reforms, however one of the reforms saves the government money by consolidating primary election days, therefore, financing all voter reforms.

SCRIPT: I’m calling in support of automatic voter registration, funding for early voting, restoring voting rights for parolees and small donor matching for statewide elections. I expect [State Senator Helming/Assemblyman Manktelow] to support the bills in support of these issues.

Note: When you make your call, it is a good time to also ask if State Senator Helming or Assemblyman Manktelow will be holding town hall meetings to meet with their constituents.

FEDERAL ISSUES

ACTION 1: Return children to their families/Senators and Katko

INFO: Trump administration has admitted there may have been thousands more separated children than they originally stated. They’re arguing that it would take too long to figure out where those kids are because the federal government had no tracking system.

SCRIPT: I’m calling to ask (Senator Schumer/Gillibrand/Congressman Katko) to put pressure on the Trump Administration to reunite separated migrant children to their families. It is unconscionable that the Trump Administration has lost track of these children and has no plan in place to reunite families.
